About Memorial Prison
The Memorial Unit is a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) men's maximum security prison located in Brazoria County Texas. The unit is at 59 Darrington Rd off FM521, 4 miles north of Rosharon 77583, and south of Houston not far from Pearland.
The prison has 6,770 acres of land and includes the Region III Administrative Office of the Windham School District. Memorial houses a number of agricultural operations including cow & swine, field crops, egg laying/washing/packaging, security horses & canines, cold storage, & grain storage. The unit also has several technology programs & operations include HVAC, refrigeration, automotive specialization, tire retreading, and water treatment.
Memorial contributes to a number of public service areas including the area food bank, Habitat for Humanity, and Texas Parks and Wildlife. The unit has a Faith Based Dormitory and Chaplaincy Services. The unit is home to the recent (2011) Seminary Program now administered through the Heart of Texas Foundation whose graduates provide Field Ministers at units throughout the state of Texas.
